Ea® Bypass Oil Filter

Ea® Bypass Oil Filter

Engineered for Outstanding Oil Filtration Efficiency
AMSOIL Bypass Oil Filters provide maximum filtration protection against wear and oil contamination.

Working in conjunction with the engine’s full-flow oil filter, AMSOIL Bypass Filters operate by filtering oil on a “partial-flow” basis. They draw less than 10 percent of the oil sump’s capacity at any one time and trap the extremely small, wear-causing contaminants that full-flow filters can’t remove. AMSOIL Bypass Filters typically filter all of the oil in the system several times an hour, so the engine continuously receives analytically clean oil.
  • Filtration – Your First Defence against Wear

Automotive experts agree dirt is the number one cause of engine wear. In fact, analysis by Federal-Mogul Corporation reports that 43.4 percent of all engine bearing distress is caused by dirt.

Dirt particles are extremely abrasive. They consist of razor-like flakes of road dust and airborne grit drawn into the engine through the intake manifold. Along with manufacturing scarf and wear metal particles generated inside the engine, these particles are carried by the oil into the precision clearances between bearings and other moving parts, where they grind and gouge surfaces, altering clearances and generating more abrasive debris.

As this wear cycle continues, precision components become sloppy and fatigued until they fail altogether. Filtration is the key to preventing costly engine repairs caused by dirt, removing contaminants by trapping and holding them outside the system of oil circulation.

In order for a filter to be truly effective, it must be able to capture contaminants of all types and sizes. AMSOIL offers a complete line of sophisticated filtration products designed to offer the best protection available against virtually all harmful engine contaminants.

Full Flow Filter vs. Bypass Filter

Full-flow filters are more open and free-flowing than bypass filters so they are able to support the flow of oil that lubricates the engine. Because they are freer-flowing, they are less efficient at removing small particles. AMSOIL Ea® Full-Flow Filters can efficiently remove particles down to 20 microns.

Bypass filters only filter a small percentage of the system’s oil at any given time. Denser, more efficient filtration media provides improved small-particle removal. Ea Bypass Filters efficiently remove contaminants (98.7 percent efficiency) down to 2 microns.

Used together, full-flow and bypass filters provide comprehensive wear protection against both large and small particles, as well as both short-term and long-term wear. In addition, filter capacity is increased, and the life of the filters is extended.

    Higher Efficiency

AMSOIL Ea Bypass Filters have an absolute efficiency of 98.7 percent at two microns. This highly efficient filter provides exceptional filtration performance, removing all the particles known to reduce engine life.

    Superior Construction

AMSOIL Bypass Filters have a marine powder-coated exterior and an anti-corrosion coated base plate to provide excellent corrosion protection. AMSOIL Bypass Filters feature a nitrile HNBR gasket, an orange silicone anti-drain valve andproprietary high-efficiency media.

    Filter Service Intervals

AMSOIL Bypass Filters offer long service life. Do not exceedthe limits listed in the chart below.

    Increased Oil Capacity

The increased fluid system capacity and filtration life provides improved oil cooling and ensures that equipment constantly runs on highly filtered oil. Engine efficiency is increased, providing extended engine life.

    Soot Removal

AMSOIL has designed a high-efficiency bypass filter element that is also a soot removal device. AMSOIL Bypass Filters use proprietary high-efficiency media. This media removes soot particles two microns and larger, eliminating abrasive wearfrom soot agglomeration.
  • Single Remote vs. Dual Remote Systems

AMSOIL offers two types of bypass systems: single-remote and dual-remote. The systems are equally efficient, and the only real difference is the full-flow filter’s location.

    Single Remote Bypass System

The AMSOIL Single-Remote System is convenient to install; it does not require relocating the full-flow filter. It also takes up less space, which is often the biggest issue when installing any bypass system.

With the Single-Remote System the oil is diverted from its normal circuit: 1) From a pressurized oil port or 2) Through a filter adapter/oil filter cap (available for purchase for specific applications). The oil is then pumped through the bypass filter and returned to the oil pan.

    Dual Remote Bypass System

Available only from AMSOIL, the Dual Remote Oil Bypass Filtration System replaces conventional full flow filters, mounting in any convenient location in the engine, and gives both full flow and bypass oil filter protection.

The AMSOIL Dual-Remote System is convenient for servicing filters, placing both the full-flow filter and bypass filter on the same dual-mount. If you have the room in your engine compartment, this is a good option.

A spin-on filter adapter fits onto the full-flow filter, through which the oil is both taken and returned. The oil flows through both filters, and the oil returns to the system through the filter adapter.

    Dual-Guard Bypass System

The AMSOIL Dual-Guard Bypass Oil Filter links two AMSOIL Ea Bypass filter elements together on one mount.

The Dual Remote Bypass System provides superior filtration performance and is ideal for engines with sump capacities greater than 20 quarts. This system connects to the engine through a pressurized oil port. It includes mount, mounting hardware, hose and hose fittings.

    a. Make sure to check oil level with engine oil dipstick to ensure proper level. This additional volume is an estimate and should be properly evaluated using the dipstick.

    b. Filters can be used on sumps of larger capacity but may require more frequent replacement.

    How Bypass Filtration Works

Bypass oil filtration features a secondary filter with the purpose of eliminating nearly all contaminants from motor oil. Bypass filters have high capacities and eliminate much smaller particles than full-flow filters, including soot.

Bypass filters reduce engine wear and increase oil volume, but their high efficiencies mean they also have higher restriction and must be used in conjunction with a full-flow filter.

Bypass filters operate by filtering oil on a "partial-flow" basis. They draw approximately 10 percent of the oil pump's capacity at any one time and trap the extremely small, wear-causing contaminants that full-flow filters can't remove. Bypass filters have a high pressure differential, causing the oil to flow through them very slowly and allowing for the removal of smaller contaminants.

It is called bypass filtration because the oil flows from the bypass filter back to the sump, bypassing the engine. This continual process eventually makes all the oil analytically clean, reduces long-term wear and can dramatically extend oil drain intervals.
